What about corporate cables? Yes, it's still there, but better. Modems have been upgraded several times and now easily provide 100Mbps, 300Mbps and even 1000Mbps on the same coaxial cable. You can even get that 1000Mbps for what you pay for an old T1 line. However, note that the bandwidth of the cable line is shared and can vary during the day. The upload speed is maybe a tenth of the download speed.
What about fiber?
For decades, fiber optic Internet services have been out of reach for all but the largest companies. An upgrade from the old SONET Telco technology to competitive fiber to Ethernet has lowered prices and multiplied options. You can dictate your bandwidth from 10 Mbps to 10 Gbps and order what you need without paying too much. Later, when demand increases, it is usually possible to increase the line speed without changing the hardware.
Ethernet over fiber offers speed options up to 100 Gbps that are easily scalable, highly reliable, dedicated and symmetrical. Increasingly, these options include immediate availability from one and often multiple providers. Most providers are aggressively expanding their networks and can reduce or even eliminate construction costs. It just depends on what is available near your location and how much competition there is.
I want fiber. How to get it
You probably won't regret switching to fiber optic internet service. Unlike older copper-based technologies, fiber is future-proof, minimizing limitations such as latency, packet loss, and jitter. This is the transparent connection you want.
