Although the price of a T1 line has decreased significantly over the years, it can still be an expensive solution, especially if you need to connect many to get enough bandwidth. In the beginning, the T1 line was the only game in town. After the availability of much higher bandwidth fiber, T1 still had a cost advantage in the pre-broadband days. Can you believe that 1.5 Mbps was amazing back then? This equates to 1.5Mbps. It is the same speed in both directions. It is full duplex or both at the same time. T1 is a limited line. You have all the bandwidth, and if you don't use it, it sits idle until you use it.
The connected T1 line increases the speed
Collage is the process of creating an abstract from scratch. If you connect two T1 lines together, you get 3 Mbps. Four lines will give you 6 Mbps. You get six lines and a respectable 9 Mbps. I understand that in the Alaskan wilderness they tie 8 or 10 pieces together. It's about the limit.
Now reverse. These 2, 4 or 6 connected lines are 2, 4 or 6 times larger than T1 lines. There are no economies of scale. Say a few hundred dollars each month, it will quickly become very expensive. For that much money why not just go for fiber?
Without copper fiber
Fiber, of course. A nice side effect of the big telecom transition to 4G LTE and 5G wireless networks is that the T1 lines used to send data to cell towers can no longer provide bandwidth. Therefore, a large concentration of fiber on the tower, also known as wireless fiber, microwave transmission, has been created. This means that fiber services are more accessible than ever before. Due to increased competition from new providers and the transition from SONET technology to Carrier Ethernet, it is much cheaper. If you haven't checked fiber prices and availability in a while, you might be surprised what can pop up without you seeing it.
Save copper, but use Ethernet
All copper twisted pairs on the ground can be used to provide better bandwidth by connecting to Ethernet instead of T1. EoC is a different technology and can easily transfer 10 or 20 Mbps. The disadvantage is that bandwidth decreases rapidly with distance. This approach works best in communities close to communication centers. If you can afford it, Ethernet is more affordable than copper and offers Tied T1 performance at a fraction of the cost per Mbps.
What about cables?
I wonder how many times a potential customer asks for gigabit or dark fiber but ends up buying cable broadband. Why cable has a big advantage in price. You can often get fiber bandwidth for the price of T1, and most service levels are available for any business. Bandwidth is shared, not limited. It's also asynchronous, meaning download speeds can be ten times or more faster than download speeds. Depending on how we use the Service, this may or may not be a problem. Some programs tolerate nothing but private paths. Almost everything we do every day is not very demanding. Many cable services consistently have high bandwidth and low latency. Usually the problems that occur are temporary, and long-term outages are rare for major service providers.
Mix and match
You can consider a combination of services to get the right combination of performance and cost. For VoIP telephony and perhaps cloud-based business processes, get a dedicated T1 or fiber connection. For shared Internet or client Wi-Fi, a business broadband cable gives you good performance for the price. Run the network independently or use the SD-One system for intelligent traffic routing.
